Travel Insurance During Pregnancy

Get the best out of your travel insurance when travelling whilst pregnant

Do I need specialist travel insurance when pregnant?

No.  A to Z Insurance would be delighted to provide you with standard travel insurance when you travel whilst pregnant with one baby up to your 28th week. For a multiple pregnancy, it would cover you until week 24.

Do I need to declare that I am pregnant?

No. Pregnancy is not treated as a medical condition so you don’t need to tell us you are pregnant. If you have any medical conditions, whether pregnancy related or otherwise, you need to declare those, but outside of that, you don’t need to tell us that you are pregnant.

Is there any additional cost to travel insurance when pregnant?

No You can get great value travel insurance from A to Z Insurance, the same premium as you would get if you weren’t pregnant. The only exception to this, would be if you have any pregnancy related medical conditions that are declared, that could slightly increase your premium depending on the severity.

Is there anything else I should consider?

You need to ensure that:

  • You are fit to fly so aren’t flying against any medical advice.
  • You check out any holiday vaccinations or medication such as anti-malaria tablets, required for your destination country and are happy to have them whilst pregnant before you book the trip.
  • If travelling to Europe, that you have a GHIC card, for more information see our GHIC help page.
  • Your airline is also happy for you to fly depending on how many weeks pregnant you are.

Are there any exclusions relating to pregnancy?

Yes. The following is not covered:

  • Any costs arising from your pregnancy or childbirth if the expected date of delivery is less than 12 weeks (16 weeks for a multiple birth) after the scheduled end of the trip.
  • Cancellation arising from pregnancy or childbirth if:
    • the expected date of delivery is less than 12 weeks (16 weeks for a multiple birth) after the scheduled end of the trip; or
    • the cancellation is not certified by a Medical Practitioner as necessary due to the complications of pregnancy or childbirth
