Covering your medical conditions can be confusing and sometimes it's hard to find the right policy that meets your needs. At A to Z Insurance, we want you to have peace of mind from start to finish, so you can enjoy that well deserved holiday or trip of a lifetime.

When buying your travel insurance policy for you or your family, always remember to declare all your medical conditions such as asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, allergies, or chronic illnesses including cancer. By not declaring a condition truthfully, this may void your policy should you need to make a claim before or during your holiday and could leave you with a hefty medical expenses bill whilst abroad. Our quote journey will help you identify what medical conditions need to be declared.

When searching for an insurance policy to cover your medical conditions, you will be asked a series of questions which will ensure your medical conditions are covered should you need to make a claim. In some scenarios you may struggle to get affordable cover or are declined after declaring medical conditions, in this instance please try the medical helper service provided by Money and Pensions Service or call 0800 138 7777.

Here are A to Z Insurance’s top tips to remember when buying your medical travel insurance policy:

  • Make sure you declare all medical conditions for you and your family members (remember you do not need to buy a separate travel insurance policy if other family members do not have medical conditions to declare, they can come on the same policy as you).
  • Always make sure the cancellation limits cover your holiday cost should you need to make a claim.
  • Make sure you take enough medication for the length of your trip, including any documentation you might need such as a doctor’s letter or copies of your prescriptions.
  • Remember that the cover limits on the policy such as medical expenses, cancellation or baggage are per person should you need to claim and not to cover everyone on the trip.
  • Any excesses payable on a claim will be chargeable across all benefits and per person.
  • Don’t forget all UK residents can still use a valid EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) or the new replacement GHIC in EU countries to access free or low-cost state emergency healthcare, which you can read more about on our top tips page. Please note the GHIC does not replace your travel insurance policy whilst abroad.
